Construction work on Lochgoilhead Community Park and Gardens began in November 2018. We transformed an unloved area of land of around 7,000m2 into a valuable community asset. The Park and Gardens contributed to 5 of the top 10 priorities in the 2018 – 2023 Community Action Plan. The garden design went through several changes as a result of consultation with the community before it was finalised and submitted for planning approval in 2018.
The aim of the gardens is to provide a multi-use community space. With a nature pond, formal planting, raised vegetable beds, communal food growing, a heritage orchard, lawns and even an outdoor stage, the Park and Gardens has proved to be a hit with both residents and visitors. It is free for all to use and enjoy.
In 2024 we were awarded a grant by The National Lottery to install electricity in the garden and repair damage caused by 2023 storms which washed away loose materials such as bark and gravel, as well as destroying a toolshed and a 100m section of the River Walk.
If you plan to host an event in the park, please ensure that you respect local residents and the environment and leave it litter-free and as you found it (or better!). All we ask in return is that you consider volunteering with us, or perhaps make a small donation towards ongoing maintenance. You'll find the link for donations on our home page.
The success of the project owes much to our committed volunteers and of course to the generous donation of the land to the Trust from Lochgoilhead Rifle Club.
